Am I missing something here?
As the Dollar weakens, you need more Dollars to buy a barrel of oil, so the price goes up.
When the Dollar gets stronger again, the price of oil will surely fall.
So why am I, in the UK, paying so much more at the pumps (apart from our greedy government slapping on as much tax as they think they can get away with)? The price of oil?
well actually since oil is priced in USD when the dollar is weak your pound can buy more US and thus the price falls but when the USD becomes stronger 1 Pound buys less dollars and thus the price is higher.
as for your higher prices the UK imports majority of its carbon non renewables from the Middle East and Russia. Also price is mainly determined by demand and supply. While the US are looking at recession China and India are constantly increasing demand for natural resources. on the supply side many believe we have reached peak oil the point where we produce as much oil can be reduced. thus you have ever increasing demand and dwindling supply and the price risesThe price of oil?
Because the Oil Barons are on a 'profit high' drugged out of their skulls on 'profits' and they don't give a damn - we all just keep filling up at the pumps like a flock of stupid sheep.
It we all just boycotted the pumps for a single day, the Oil Barons would get the message and you bet the price of gas/petrol would just come down a notch. Do it every week and the pump price would come down even another couple of notches.
The consumer, you me and all of us, have massive power. Problem is that we're not organised but the Oil Barons of the Seven Sisters from Hell are well organised.
So why don't we get organised? It is within our power to do something to force the price of gas/petrol at the pumps in a downward direction. And, don't believe that crap that it could not happen, it could.
There are hundreds of millions of us and only a few of them. If we start marching today the Earth will shake so hard they're very bones will snap.
Do it!

The oil price doesn't actually affect petrol prices all that much - what DOES affect them is the amount of duty the government puts on the price. Where I live, fuel is tax-free and it costs me the equivalent of about six quid to fill up a 3ltr 4WD with diesel - it's about 10p a litre, unleaded is about 15p a litre. That's what it costs - the rest you are paying is just tax, unfortunately.
Opec is the main problem. They agree to only produce a set number of barrels of oil per day so people are prepared to pay more to ensure thay get what they require. The US export most of the oil they produce so as the Dollar weakens the price of oil goes up so that they maintain the same amount of buying power.
If 拢1=$1.50 then $150 is required to buy 拢100 of goods
If 拢1=$2.00 then $200 is required to buy the same 拢100 of goods.
Dead right. We are now being conditioned to expect a 拢5 gallon so when it happens there is no surprise. The fuel companies are making billions and the government is taking more and more VAT as the price goes up. Hence they can afford to delay the next tax increase until October.
There are many factors. Firstly the oil merchants of USA, they fix price higher because they make the price based on Newyork C %26amp; F. Whereas New York is at much greater distance than London or Paris. Secondly they have signed long term contracts with oil producing countries and sell oil at a high price even to the countries that produce oil. Like Canadians are paying a high price of their own oil, because the entrepreneurs who did the drilling in the first place, signed a long term agreement with Canadians government to sell it at a high price, same as market price.
Thirdly oil was so cheap that most governments used to tax the people on oil prices. Now that oil prices have gone high.
they are still charging tax on oil value. In fact they should have
found another commodity to generate revenue for them and should have at least based the revenue on consumption rather than value. For example if I drive a Buick or Cadillac
I pay the same tax per liter as the one who is using a small
Toyota or Honda. The tax should be per litre and not price of one liter.
There must be a loud and clear public outcry against the manipulation of oil prices by the oil barons and careless
governments who tax a commodity that has already gone beyond the reach of common man.
