Absolutely not, it will help the economy. Look at Europe, gas prices have been double what we in the U.S. pay for years and the Euro is stronger than the dollar.The experts say oil will double in price, will this collapse the economy? Will this bring on a depression?
A high price will stimulate the exploration and discovering of new fields of petrol and the construction of more refineries. Many companies will want to entry to oil business.
The depression could come from a financial crisis with those negative interest rates where the banks give credit to who can not pay it.The experts say oil will double in price, will this collapse the economy? Will this bring on a depression?
';will this collapse the economy?';
Well, it's doing a pretty darn good job of collapsing MY economy!
';Will this bring on a depression?';
It's already depressing the h-ll out of ME!
As someone who lives from paycheck to paycheck and runs out in between, it is ensuring that I run out even SOONER each pay period! I have a Chevy Astro with a 26-gallon gas tank and poor mileage and +$75 fill-ups are already killing me! If it goes to $4, then it will cost me more than $100 for a single tankfull!
Yet, I could not get enough out of the Astro if I sold it to buy another, more economical, car. So I'm just STUCK!
When it takes 2 hours or more to run the same errand via the public transit system that I can run in 20 minutes with my own vehicle, it is not hard to guess why I am less than thrilled with the idea of crowding into a slow-moving, 4-wheeled sardine can with people standing on my feet!
Walking can be an occassional option if I am not going to need to carry a significant load, but bicycling is out because my city is a virtual roller-coaster and bicycle lanes (where they do exist) tend to end abruptly without warning at the worst times and in the worst places!
It is nothing less than SHOCKING to me to see how other people are willingly and meekly going along with being victimized by the oil companies' greedy wallet grab! But then, apathetic acceptance by the majority is how tyranny survives and thrives - be it political or economic in nature.
Some even have the idea that it is okay because people in Europe are being robbed for more! To me, THAT viewpoint makes about as much sense as saying it's okay to shoot ME with a 22 caliber bullet because someone else, somewhere else is getting shot with a 44!
As my boyfriend often says - right is right, but wrong is NOBODY's friend!
Will it collapse the economy? Probably not ';collapse';, but it certainly IS severely hurting it! Look what a mess it has fallen into since this started! The feds are fixing to lower the prime interest rates AGAIN, and Bush is trying to buy the election for his party by giving us $300 or $600 or whatever it will end up being ';to stimulate the economy'; - all out of economic desperation.
Almost ALL goods and services involve some transport of merchandise and/or materials, the cost of that transportation is raising the cost of everything else and salaries are not keeping pace with all this by any stretch of the imagination!
Will it cause a depression? It is certainly headed in that direction and getting closer every day!
Last week the';Experts'; said there was a Glut of oil in the US, and the price would drop dramatically...
What will happen is if the price of oil doubles, (which, it has twice in the last few years) is we will continue along as we have, paying the price...
With luck it will stimulate the ethanol industry to get some of their plants and terminals done, and stimulate the government to require filling stations to have an ethanol pump in addition to gas and diesel....
